Raymond QUENEAU, Limon Queneau Collection ③ Suiseisha 2013

Shiotsuka specializes in analyzing the works of Raymond Queneau, and his research has been well received in France. With knowledge exceeding standard translation ability, Shiotsuka accurately captures the sense that this novel is not simply a playful work, but harbors the tension of the two world wars in which it takes place, and thus clearly possesses the spirit of resistance. The selection committee members agreed that Shiotsuka's translation of Raymond Queneau's "Children of Clay" was an extremely excellent translation as a masterpiece based on sound technical expertise. As such, the translation was selected as the 20th winner of the Konishi Foundation French-Japanese translation literary prize.

Jambes de cheval

Ancelot is an active translator, having translated the works of many great authors such as Inoue Yasushi, Enchi Fumiko, and Endou Shuusaku. When Ancelot translated "Jambes de cheval", she elaborately studied background materials in order to make an honest attempt to face head on with Akutabuya's work. Her choice of works to translate reveals her good taste for which she also receives distinction. Through this translation, it is not only possible to realize her sincere stance to the original work, but also the amount of importance and effort involved in translation. As such, the selection committee awarded Catherine Ancelot as winner of the Japanese-French translation literary prize.

Le restaurant de l’amour retrouvé

The translation of "Le restaurant de l'amour retrouvé" cleverly preserves the style of the original, with diligent attention to every nook and cranny of the source text. As a result, even after being translated in French, it successfully encourages the reader to feel the same empathy as the original work. To acknowledge this great achievement, the selection committee awarded Myriam Dartois (Ako) with the honorable mention award for young translators (recently established).
