30th Anniversary Symposium of the Konishi Foundation Japanese-French Translated Literature Award
“French-Japanese Literary Translation and Its Evolution — From the Classics to Contemporary Works and Manga”
Traduction littéraire franco-japonaise, son évolution:des classiques aux œuvres contemporaines, jusqu’aux mangas
The Japanese-French Translated Literature Award, established to honor outstanding translations between Japanese and French, marks its 30th edition this year. On this commemorative occasion, we will look back on the history of the award and engage in discussions on the past, present, and future of literary translation.
The hopes entrusted to translation by authors Yasushi Inoue and Kenzaburo Oe, who played key roles in establishing the award, for the future of literature. How is the mission of translation changing with the advent of AI? The translation of manga, which enjoys great popularity in France, and the significance of re-translating the classics—these captivating themes are endless.
A special lecture by author Yoko Tawada is also scheduled (November 2). Together with past award recipients, authors, translators, publishing professionals, and all those who value the art of translation, we will engage in in-depth discussions.
